In discovering the creations of Airbus Corporate Jets, we had an opportunity to explore the singular feelings of travel in such an exclusive context. Transmitted exclusively by vibrations, our alarm function attests consideration and savoir-faire. It owes its existence to an absolutely singular technical approach. Supremely easy to use, this complication embodies a paradox. Normally, an effective alarm needs to be audible from afar… Ours however, needed to remain within the compass of a few millimetres.

AIR TRAVEL & MECHANICS

Despite the difference in scale between a watch and an aircraft, we see these two objects as highly similar in terms of their functioning, requirements and processes. Thousands of hours spent on R&D are necessary for each one to see the day. Ultra-light and super-resistant materials ensure their solidity and performance. Sophisticated structural arrangements are chosen to ward off the intense vibrations they are subjected to. Uncompromisingly stringent certifications vouchsafe their durability. The meticulous application of fastidious procedures is a necessary condition of their quality. And their design aspect makes for marvellous machines that are a never-ending source of inspiration!

If ever two worlds were destined to meet at the acme of innovation, those worlds are aviation and horology, both on a quest to master space and time.
Aeronautics has always held a special place as an inspiration for Richard Mille and the company’s vision of 21^th century horology reveals close parallels with the former’s extreme conditions. The ability of our watches to function in hostile conditions, to resist considerable forces and to withstand wear and tear has led us to test our innovations by subjecting them to a ‘torture chamber’ we built at our manufacture. Like aviation, which demands a safety margin of 120%-150%, we want our watches to exceed all norms in terms of their functionality.
The mission Airbus has always upheld of transporting passengers through the air with a maximum of safety and comfort has pushed the company’s technical specialists to the forefront of aeronautic design. The name alone evokes unprecedented approaches to the design of aircraft built by the prestigious subsidiary Airbus Corporate Jets (ACJ) for exclusive private clients.

Launched in 2016, the collaboration between ACJ and Richard Mille had already born fruit in the form of the RM 50-02 Tourbillon ACJ. The technical prowess exhibited by the mechanism inside this watch are a breath-taking illustration of both the superlative engineering and shared values the two companies have in common.
